Summary of This Commentary
Each year, we have devoted an issue to the subject of climate change.  This year is no exception.  [You will find the summaries of those previous commentaries here.]  But, due to all the new information which has come to light, our coverage this year requires 2 issues.  Part 1 opens with an introduction to the scandal at the CRU (the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia in the U.K.) and the resignation of its high-profile director.  For the benefit of our new readers, we repeat the details of our approach to evaluating crises such as that claimed to be caused by MMGW (man-made global warming).  Next, we re-introduce the 5-step process designed to assist you in determining your response to such crises.  Here are the 1st 3 of those steps.
Step 1: Resist Premature Action cites some of the major initiatives used by MMGW advocates to pressure governments at all levels into taking the actions they demand.
Step 2: Review the Available Information refers to our findings from previous years on the MMGW hypothesis and recalls the 2 body blows that this hypothesis suffered in 2007.  And, it summarizes the revelations from the emails and other material leaked from the CRU at the University of East Anglia.  Noting the attempts by the major media to downplay and dismiss this scandal, I urge you to do your own research and draw your own conclusions.  A link is provided for you to see the evidence for yourself.
Step 3: Examine the Predictions revisits the predictions which have been used by advocates to promote the MMGW crisis and notes the debunking of the 'science' claimed to produce the so-called hockey-stick graph.

This commentary provides important background information for the conclusions and recommendations presented in the next issue.

As always, we welcome your comments.

About the Cordillera Institute
The Cordillera Institute is an independent research and public policy organization dedicated to excellence in local government.  Since our founding in 1994, we have studied many high-performance organizations to learn what makes them successful.  From this research, we have distilled a set of principles, paradigms, policies, programs, and practices which are the key elements of their success.  Our mission is to be a catalyst — to empower municipalities, school boards, public utilities, and other local public agencies to achieve excellence by adopting and applying these success elements.  For more information, just click on the About CI button below.
